a cheap video camera and cheap gas =

Back in 2004 I had the rare opportunity, as a 34 year old, to have enough free time and silly spirit to shoot a faux travel documentary about my great bloated state of Texas. With my friend Jonathan Wingo in between semesters at Hampshire and myself back in school we had a little too much free time on our hands. When we weren't cracking up at televangelist Perry Stone's swords for Jesus we would hit the road with an old Digital8 Sony camcorder and improvise completely made up tales of Texas history.

Gas was around 2 dollars a gallon, I had a little extra money saved up, and we were creatively restless so the result was at least funny to us. The plan was to cover the entire state but we only made it through Dallas, Waco and Austin. Over three quarters of the Dallas footage was lost when Jonathan shipped it to himself before leaving for school the next semester and the box was found months later in NJ, torn and missing most of it's contents.

It's probably funnier to me and Jonathan than anyone else but you might laugh a little. Also please excuse the less than smooth transfer:
